I have a small collection of vintage gloves and I do wear them on occasion.

In the 1960s, I had to have white gloves for Girl Scouts. A lot of the movies in the 60s showed women wearing gloves when they were headed to work. I think we took way better care of our hands skin then than we do now. there was a book on etiquette that had a whole section on gloves. And the statement was you could never own too many snowy white gloves.

My mom’s first job was at an insurance company in the late 70’s. Their dress code required all women to wear white gloves - they could be removed at their desk. This was also at the same time smoking was cool at your desk.

My grandmother had a huge drawer full of gloves . White ones for summer. Black ones for winter. Afew brown and navy blue just for the hell of it. Some went to the wrist . Some went to the elbow . Some had buttons. Some had weird little seams along the back of the hand . We loved playing with them and all the old hats and purses. She saved everthing

Gloves are unnecessary accessory, in my opinion.

My grandmother wore a hat and gloves whenever she left home. She was very distressed because I had freckles on my face, arms and hands. To her, my spots indicated that I spent to much time "frolicking" and not enough time being ladylike. Ginger people will grow freckles, no matter what polite people say 😂

I remember wearing gloves and I was born in the mid 1950s. They were white short wrist length gloves and I wore them until the 1970s.

Until Dr. Salk found a vaccine for polio, almost everyone was .encouraged to use them. Then there's the benefit of preventing "age spots".

I went to a last minute upscale dinner, I didn't have time to do my nails,so I wore my long black velvet gloves. Unfortunately I was seated next to the chi chi guy etiquette advisor (for the British main office)and was eating the hoerderves with them on.. So embarrassing 😅
